Flowering Sweet Tea Olive Bonsai Tree
(osmanthus fragrans)
Also known as Tea Olive or Fragrant Olive. Native to Asia and Southeast Asia. It is the "city flower" of the cities of Hangzhou, Suzou, and Guilin in China and is the "town tree" in the towns of Yoshitomi, Fukuoka, and Prefecture in Japan. It is an evergreen tree with leaves that have finely toothed margins. The flowers are small, (1 com long) white, pale yellow, or orange-yellow with a four lobed corolla and produced in small clusters throughout summer & autumn. Cultivated in Europe, North America, Asia, and elsewhere for its deliciously fragrant flowers which carry the scent of ripe peaches or apricots. The fruit is purple-black containing a single hand-shelled seed which matures about 6 months after flowering.
